NOT LETTING AGE DEFINE MY LIFE OR STYLE

Building Colour & Pattern in Winter Wardrobes | The Fabulous Jacket | Raspberry & Leopard Print

If you're building a capsule wardrobe, all the advice from uber stylisters everywhere it seems is...

find that perfect pair of jeans, that not only hugs the derrière but lifts it up skyward,

seek out that perfect black jacket that you can throw over everything, darh-ling, from jeans to dresses and which will take you from dawn to dusk.

Now, of course, I have a black jacket in my wardrobe and yes, you can throw a black jacket over pretty much everything.  In fact, I have 3 in my wardrobe that between them, like a relay team, can indeed, take me from dawn to dusk.

But what if you're past that building a capsule wardrobe stage or what if you never got started?  You may well say instead, as I do...

'Thanks very much, I'd rather find a fabulous jacket, in a colour that may not lift my derrière skyward but certainly lifts my mood!'

I really believe every woman should own a fabulous jacket (or six) - whether that's a striped blazer for Spring, a floral bomber for Summer, a tweed jacket for Autumn, - or like mine, a wool and cashmere jacket for Winter that just makes you think of raspberry sorbet!

The wonderful thing about fabulous jackets is they can be worn with anything.  I have heard women say, oh, but you're limited with what you can wear with them, when you have coloured jackets.

Piffle, I say to that!  I've honestly not had that problem with this or my other fabulous, coloured jackets.

I wear it dressed down with jeans as here, dressed up with skirts and dresses, with brown, grey, black, navy, teal to name a few colours, and with all sorts of patterns.

And, I don't need to spend a ridiculous sum on a pair of jeans to lift my derrière.  My weekly Pilates class on the Reformer does that quite superbly.

I found this little beauty of a jacket on e-bay a couple of year ago and I wasn't going to let it slip through my fingers.  The slight vintage vibe with the big swooping collar that you just want to pick up with your hands and snuggle to your ears, excited me.  I imagined my Mum looking very elegant wearing something like this in the 50's.

I was quite prepared for high bidding but when p&p was included I won it for £11.50!  Under £12 for a new, with tags still attached, wool and cashmere jacket!  Makes the jacket even more fabulous!

It's Minuet, a petite brand that I really liked and had bought from over the years (not just on e-bay!), because the fit and style always worked on me.  Sadly, they ceased trading earlier this year which I was NOT happy about - stamps her petite feet - as that's one less petite brand on the market!

They were under the umbrella company that runs Jacques Vert which also own Precis Petite.  I guess they felt two petite brands were one two many.  Shame, as I don't have the same love for Precis as I did for Minuet!  I'll just have to stalk e-bay even more!

Just look at that lining?  It could've been lined in a plain, sensible colour but NO!  Grey background with raspberry polka dots was chosen and bless the person who chose it - it's quite perfect!

It makes me want to flash it every now and then!  In a non-pervy way, you understand.

When you have a block colour jacket, it demands fun accessories.  My Raspberry Sorbet jacket said that it wanted to go out to play with my teal and sequinned beret, my matching leopard print gloves and scarf and metallic bag and who was I to deny such a request.

I wore this outfit yesterday, as we were tootling in the car over to my parents for lunch, so I didn't need to take a big coat with me.  With a polo neck jumper underneath and my beret to keep my head warm and my Thinsulate scarf and gloves and wedged boots I was toasty warm.

I knew the colours and the leopard print would make my Mum smile and indeed her eyes lit up when she saw me!

I finally had my locks trimmed on Thursday and I'm rather amused how one lock is effortlessly curling around my beret! Takes some people years to acquire an effortless curl, you know, but a snip of the scissors and wh-oooooooosh, there she curls like a giant ice cream scoop!

You either have the knack or you don't!

We didn't have raspberry sorbet at my parents but we did have Christmas cake for tea and I nicked all the marzipan. That's why I look so excited - I knew I'd be getting my marzipan fix for the day!

Do you love coloured jackets?  Do you find they take you from dawn to dusk?

  1. I am so happy to hear that your clothes talk to you...I thought it was just me! That is truly a fabulous jacket. The color, the button details, the collar...it all comes together to make one stellar piece of outerwear. And seriously, what's more fun than outerwear in an unexpected color?!

  4. It's a cute jacket, and you can just build a capsule wardrobe around it. I live in capsule wardrobes, and you don't need neither jeans nor a black jacket (both of which I have and seldom wear) for a good capsule wardrobe. What you need is a good coat/jacket that goes with anything.

  7. I love this jacket - it's such a great colour and cut! I'm a fan of Precis Petite (Jacques Vert is a little too "mother of the bride" for my taste, but the quality is good), and I love the bright pink here! I have 2 black jackets (out of my 20 outerwear coats) and I rarely wear them. Colour all the way, baby!

Thank you so much for your awesome comments over the past few days - very much appreciated!

  9. Sod capsule jackets, I'll take a statement coat over that ANY DAY. Also I have discovered the key to buying perfect jeans... don't buy them. Honestly, I have just one pair of jeans now and the rest are all jeggings and they all fit much better, I don't know why...
