NOT LETTING AGE DEFINE MY LIFE OR STYLE

Seasonal Skinny Wk 18: Jewel Tones | Wine, Purple & Orange

This week's Seasonal Skinny edition comes to you from the Capital of the French Riviera: Nice!

Purple Cashmere Waterfall Cardigan, Land's End Floral Tee, Purple Suede M&S Boots | Petite Silver Vixen

It's become something of a tradition that when we visit family in France, we pop to the coast for the day for a healthy blast of sea air and I always love going to Nice.  It has old world charm, but with all the benefits of a modern city such as diverse museums and restaurants.  As we were visiting the jewel of the Côte D'Azur, it seemed appropriate to wear some jewel colours with my wine skinny jeans  - amethyst and citrine.

Which is really a fancy way of saying I'm wearing purple and orange!

You'll have to excuse my peakiness in the photos.  I couldn't be faffed with putting on make up and I had the beginnings of a stinky cold, which with epic timing, came into full bloom on Christmas Day! But let's get down to the threads.  Much more interesting than the state of my immune system!

Purple and orange have long been a classic combination and so have wine and orange but have you thought to wear all three together?  It's really easy to do.

I started with a linking piece.
My printed tee took on that role as it contains all 3 colours.

I chose one of the three colours to be the primary feature.
Here it's the jeans, as they're the longest part of my body.

One of the remaining ones became my secondary colour; worn in smaller bursts in 2 places.
I chose to top and tail the outfit with the secondary colour to balance the look, rather than do shoes and bag or cardigan and bag. Purple was the obvious choice for me not least because there's alot of it in the tee, but the purple of my waterfall cardigan and suede boots perfectly matches the purple in the tee. You'd think they were dyed at exactly the same time!

Finally, the third colour was the accent colour.
Here it's the orange because sharp, citrus shades are better worn away from my face.

The print of the tee reminds me of those dark waterlily paintings Monet did, where the oils are brushed and daubed so thickly across the canvas they form ridges.  Colour painted on top of colour and the more you look closely at those paintings, the more colours you see.

If you've a feeling of deja vu about the top, you wouldn't be too far off.  It's from Land's End and is similar in print, but without the pleats on the neckline, to one I bought a few weeks earlier and wore for the first of my Winter Seasonal Skinny outfits - Winter Wine.  I liked that one so much, not only did I go back and buy it in the white but I also nabbed this one in the sale; reduced from £24.95 to £14.

The waterfall style of the cardigan, with its cut away hem allows more of the print to be seen, whilst its draping folds gives visual depth to the top half.

To highlight the flashes of orange in the print, I'd packed in my suitcase my orange bag I found on e-bay ages ago for a song. This bag is so easy to pack because the raffia/straw-like material allows the bottom of the bag to be folded flat when you lie it on its side - hence my nickname for it - flat pack bag!

The purple booties are golden oldies and one of my favourite pairs of ankle boots.  At the time, I wish I'd bought two pairs - one in black and another purple - for when these ones wear out but so far, they're still going strong.

Last year, however, quite by chance, I managed to find on e-bay a pair in black in my size - hurrah! Who knows, I may yet stumble across another pair in purple, if the e-bay gods smile down upon me.

Camaieu Silver Circles Necklace (old)  Here's a Mega Circles Topshop Necklace
Silver & Purple Bracelet (old)
Coast Orange Straw Effect bag (old via e-bay) that I previously wore in my Yin & Yang post.  Here's an Dorothy Perkins Orange Loop Handle bag
Marks & Spencer Purple Suede Boots (old). I rather like these Purple Pointed Wedged Ankle Boots

All this posing lark and sea air made me hungry!

We headed off to the Cours Saleya in the old town, where the famous daily flower market is held. for an alfresco lunch.  It was such a mild day for Winter, I didn't need to wear my short, light down jacket I'd brought with me.  The outdoor heaters under the restaurant's canopy were enough to take the edge of the nip that was the air.

We certainly couldn't eat alfresco in December back in Blighty, unless wrapped up in thermal layers inside a sleeping bag. Which would make eating rather a tiring exercise to do!

Cheers!

    1. Isn't it just? It's one of my favourite colours after blue, along with turquoise and of course both are really different shades of blue after all!
We're very lucky that my in-laws have retired there and live there pretty much all year round apart from trips back here every few months.
Thank you, fully recovered and fighting fit again!

  9. I've worn burgundy and orange together, and purple and orange, but never burgundy and purple! I should rectify that as soon as I can wear my burgundy pants again! Thank you for the inspiration :)

Your purple cardigan is especially beautiful :)

A juicy mix of tones that makes me want to buy something purple (apart from tights, there is a huge gap in my wardrobe).

All in all, a sartorial triumph!!

As someone who loves colour as much as I do, I'm so happy you like this colour combination, Anna.
I keep looking for coloured boots in my size but as you say it's mostly a sea of black or brown with not much in between so I had to buy these when I saw them! I wonder if retailers think woman won't buy coloured boots but I really think the opposite is true.
Thank you, the immune system is in full swing now!
